Annual prize awarded to the author of an original, informative and lively article, essay or paper on an aspect of food history that embodies new research or provides new insights.
First awarded in 1995, the Sophie Coe Prize rewards writing on the subject of food history in the English language. It is awarded annually for an essay, article or paper of up to 10,000 words on any aspect of the history of food. The prize commemorates Sophie Coe, the food historian and author, who died in 1994, and is funded by the Sophie Coe Memorial Fund.
