Germany has solidified its position as a leading destination for international researchers, ranking second globally after the United States, according to the latest Wissenschaft weltoffen report by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In 2021, over 75,000 researchers from across the world worked at German universities and research institutions, highlighting Germany's continued appeal in the global academic landscape. Nearly 80% of these researchers are based at universities, including around 4,000 professors, while 20% are employed at non-university research institutions. The top three countries of origin for international researchers in Germany are India, China, and Italy.
