06-03-2025 - Launch of Third ANR-Led Call for Proposals on Sargassum
Sargassum III is the third call for proposals for a programme launched initially in 2019. The programme was launched to address the problem of Sargassum seaweed building up in the coastal regions of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. As the seaweed degrades, it releases significant amounts of ammonia and hydrogen sulphide, presenting health, environmental and economic risks. The third edition of the call is led by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR - National Research Agency) and the Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Energie (ADEME - Environment and Energy Management Agency).
