01-04-2025 - Use of Wood in Building Construction: New BMEL Call Supports Establishment of Junior Research Groups

As part of its research funding programme Sustainable Renewable Resources (FPNR), Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BMEL - German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture) has issued the new call 'Junior Research Groups to Increase the Use of Wood in the Construction of Residential and Non-residential Buildings' (Nachwuchsforschergruppenförderung zur Steigerung des Einsatzes von Holz im konstruktiven Wohn- und Nicht-Wohngebäudebau),  The call supports the establishment of early career research groups at universities in Germany. The thematic focus is on research on advancing timber construction, serial renovation, and densification using renewable materials while leveraging standardisation and intelligent systems for safety. Also included are topics such as integrate modern planning (BIM), robotic production, life cycle assessments, and sustainable reuse concepts for construction components.
